Common Specialty

Painting

Painting and staining prepares surfaces, primes, and applies durable paints and wood finishes to interior and exterior elements—walls, ceilings, trim, doors, cabinets, siding, decks, and fences. Tasks include masking and protection, minor patching and caulking, and primer selection matched to each substrate.

Cabinet Deep Sanding
Sanding starts with a coarse-grit sandpaper, typically 60–80 grit, to strip away old paint, stain, or varnish. This initial sanding removes the top layers and exposes the raw wood beneath. Once the surface is mostly stripped, medium-grit sandpaper, around 120–150 grit, is used to smooth out rough areas and refine the wood texture. Finally, fine-grit sandpaper, typically 220 grit, is applied to achieve a smooth, even finish that is ready for staining or painting.
Remove old paint
Removing old paint from cabinet fronts is essential when dealing with heavy damage, peeling, or thick, uneven layers. Using a chemical paint stripper, we apply it evenly and allow it to soften the old layers before carefully scraping away the paint with minimal damage to the wood. For stubborn areas, we use heat guns or sanding techniques, ensuring a smooth, clean surface. Once the old paint is fully removed, we sand and repair any imperfections, creating the perfect foundation for priming and repainting.
Cabinet Hardware Replace
We begin by consulting a hardware catalog to help clients select the right style and finish. If the new hardware requires a different hole configuration, we fill and sand the existing holes before painting to ensure a seamless look. After the paint is fully cured, we measure and drill new mounting holes with precision, ensuring perfect alignment. Finally, we securely install the new handles or knobs, ensuring smooth operation and a polished, updated appearance that complements the freshly painted cabinets.
Counter top painting
Painting countertops requires a durable, high-performance finish that can withstand daily wear and tear. We begin by thoroughly cleaning and sanding the surface to ensure proper adhesion, filling any imperfections for a smooth base. A high-bonding primer is applied to create a solid foundation, followed by multiple thin coats of specialty countertop paint or epoxy-based coating, which provides superior durability and resistance to moisture, heat, and scratches. Each layer is allowed to dry fully before applying a protective clear topcoat or sealer, ensuring a long-lasting, easy-to-maintain finish. Once cured, the surface is inspected and polished for a professional, refined look.
Cabinet inside painting
The cabinets are used for storing various liquid and bulk materials, which are often spilled, thus creating heavy soiling. We remove all contamination and perform quality cleaning of all internal surfaces and remove shelves for separate painting. We are masking off surrounding areas to protect against overspray or drips. Using a fine brush, roller, or sprayer, we apply thin, even coats of high-adhesion paint, ensuring smooth coverage on shelves, walls, and corners. Each coat is allowed to dry fully before light sanding between layers to achieve a flawless surface. A durable, easy-to-clean finish is essential, especially for high-use cabinets. Once dry, we inspect for touch-ups, remove masking, and ensure a seamless, professional result.
Cabinet preparation before painting
Proper preparation and priming are essential for a durable, professional cabinet finish. We begin by removing doors, drawers, and hardware, then thoroughly cleaning all surfaces to eliminate grease and residue. Next, we sand the cabinets to create a smooth, paint-ready surface, filling any dents or imperfections with wood filler. If the cabinets have a glossy or stained finish, we use a deglosser or light sanding to improve adhesion. A high-adhesion bonding primer is then applied in one or two coats, ensuring even coverage and a solid base for the topcoat. Once the primer is dry, we lightly sand again to smooth any roughness before applying paint.
Cabinet staining
Painting kitchen cabinets and other cabinets requires precision to achieve a smooth, durable finish. Once the surfaces are primed and prepped, we apply multiple thin coats of paint, using a sprayer for a factory-like finish or a fine brush and roller for controlled application. We start with light, even strokes, allowing each coat to dry fully before lightly sanding between layers for a flawless result. For durability, we use scuff-resistant, cabinet-grade paint and ensure full coverage on doors, drawer fronts, and frames.

Advanced paints
When preparing to apply advanced paints such as anti-mildew or mold-resistant paint, the first step is addressing any underlying moisture issues and ensuring the surface is dry and properly prepped to prevent future growth. Anti-mildew paints are formulated with additives that inhibit mold and mildew, and are typically applied in high-humidity areas like bathrooms or basements. Similarly, fire-resistant paints are applied to enhance a building’s fire protection by using specialized intumescent formulas that expand when exposed to heat, forming a protective barrier. Both types of paint require precise surface preparation and are applied with the appropriate tools to ensure optimal performance and longevity, offering protection against environmental and safety risks.
Pergola Painting
We paint pergolas with smooth, even coats across rafters, posts, and lattice. We brush profiles, spray broad spans, and tip off edges so the finish lays flat without drips. Each pass wraps corners and end grain, keeping lines crisp where beams meet the sky. As color builds, you see uniform tone, clean highlights in the grain, and bright, fresh light moving through the slats—the structure reading as one, with a consistent sheen that lifts the whole outdoor space.
Patio/Porch ceiling Painting
We paint patio and porch ceilings with smooth, even coats. We cut clean lines along beams and walls, brush tight around fixtures, and roll broad passes to keep a steady wet edge. You’ll see color build uniformly, lap marks fade, and boards read evenly from bay to bay. The result is a consistent sheen that brightens the space and makes the ceiling feel calm, open, and freshly defined.
Gutters & Downspouts Painting
Gutters and downspouts are painted with a direct-to-metal (DTM) acrylic or urethane-based coating to ensure adhesion and flexibility under temperature fluctuations. The surface is first lightly scuffed with a fine abrasive pad to promote mechanical bonding, then wiped clean to remove oxidation and debris. A thin, even coat is applied using a soft bristle brush or HVLP sprayer, avoiding excessive buildup that could interfere with water flow. Special attention is given to seams, brackets, and end caps, where expansion and contraction are most pronounced. The finish is laid down in controlled passes, ensuring smooth coverage without drips or uneven layering.
Deck & Porch Floor Painting
Deck and porch floors are coated with a penetrating stain or durable enamel designed for heavy foot traffic and exposure to the elements. A slip-resistant additive is incorporated when needed to enhance traction. The finish is applied using a lambswool applicator or airless sprayer, ensuring deep penetration into wood grain and seams. End grains and exposed board edges receive additional sealing to prevent moisture intrusion. For stained surfaces, excess product is wiped off after penetration to avoid a sticky residue, while painted finishes are laid down in thin, even coats to prevent pooling and premature peeling.
Soffit Painting
Soffits are painted using an airless sprayer or a soft-bristle brush to ensure even coverage across perforations and vented panels without clogging airflow passages. A breathable, mildew-resistant coating is applied to prevent moisture buildup and peeling in humid conditions. The paint is worked into recessed grooves and overlapping joints with controlled, horizontal strokes to maintain uniformity. For wide soffits, a crosshatch technique is used to eliminate streaking and lap marks. The final coat is applied with attention to overhang transitions and fascia intersections, ensuring a seamless blend with adjacent architectural elements.
Trims and Fascia Painting Outdoor
Exterior trim is painted using a precision-cut angular brush or fine-finish sprayer to ensure sharp lines and even coverage. A durable, flexible acrylic or urethane-based coating is applied to withstand temperature fluctuations and prevent cracking at joints. The first coat is worked into corners, seams, and detailed profiles to ensure full penetration, followed by a smooth, continuous topcoat that enhances definition and contrast against the main façade. For wider trim boards, a back-brushing technique is used after spraying to eliminate overspray and promote adhesion. Edges and intersections with siding are carefully feathered for a seamless, architectural finish.
Garage Door Painting
Garage doors are painted using a low-pressure sprayer or microfiber roller to achieve a smooth, even coat without visible texture. A flexible, weather-resistant coating is applied to accommodate thermal expansion and prevent cracking. The process begins with a light tack coat, followed by two full coats of acrylic latex or industrial enamel, ensuring durability against sun exposure and moisture. Panel recesses and edges are sprayed at a 45-degree angle to prevent pooling, while horizontal sections are coated systematically to maintain a uniform sheen. Drying time is managed carefully to avoid adhesion issues when the door is operated.
Exterior Door Painting
Exterior door painting requires precision to achieve a smooth, durable finish. The paint is applied evenly using a brush, roller, or sprayer, ensuring complete coverage without streaks or drips. For solid colors, two coats of exterior-grade paint are used, allowing proper drying time between layers. If a stained look is preferred, wood stain is applied in thin layers, followed by a protective clear coat. Special attention is given to edges, panels, and hardware areas, ensuring a clean, professional result. Once dry, the door is inspected for uniformity, and any necessary touch-ups are made before reinstallation.
Wooden Fence Painting
For a lasting and polished finish, fences are coated with high-quality paint or stain designed for outdoor durability. Wood fences benefit from rich, penetrating stains that enhance the natural grain, or solid-color paints that provide full coverage and protection. Metal fences are coated with weather-resistant paints, ensuring longevity and resistance to rust. The application is done using sprayers, rollers, or brushes, ensuring even coverage across all surfaces. Two coats are typically applied, allowing sufficient drying time between layers. The result is a refreshed, well-protected fence that withstands the elements while maintaining its aesthetic appeal.
Wood Siding Painting
Painting or staining wood siding and panels requires precision to enhance durability and aesthetics. Using a brush, roller, or sprayer, we apply two coats of premium exterior paint or stain, allowing proper drying time between layers. Paint provides a solid, protective finish, while stain enhances the natural wood grain and offers deep penetration for long-lasting protection. For added durability, we apply a UV-resistant and moisture-repellent topcoat before conducting a final inspection to ensure even coverage and a flawless finish.
Stucco Painting
We use a sprayer, roller, or brush, depending on the texture, to apply two coats of elastomeric or acrylic stucco paint for optimal coverage and durability. The first coat is applied evenly, allowing it to dry completely before the second coat is added to enhance protection and color depth. Special attention is given to edges, corners, and detailed areas for a seamless finish. Once dry, we conduct a final inspection and touch-ups to ensure a flawless, weather-resistant result.

Inventive Ara

Painter & Wood Stain Specialist
Independent Contractor

My mission is simple: to give your cabinets a flawless, factory-quality finish while treating your home with the same respect I'd treat my own. I define success by two things—delivering a durable, beautiful finish that lasts, and leaving you so stress-free throughout the process that you'd gladly have me back tomorrow.

I've refined my process over dozens of kitchens to be seamless and transparent. It starts with an in-home consultation where I listen to your vision and assess your cabinets. Once booked, I handle everything: removing doors and hardware, meticulous sanding and cleaning, professional spraying, and careful reinstallation.

The feedback I treasure most came from a client who was nervous about the mess. On my last day, she told me, "I honestly forgot you were here most days. You were so quiet and tidy, and now my kitchen is gorgeous." That's what I aim for—to transform your space without disrupting your life. Knowing I gave someone a kitchen they love and a week of peace is what keeps me passionate about this work.

I'm a homeowner too, so I know how disruptive contractors can be. That's why I keep a clean workspace, communicate clearly, and treat your home like it's my own. You're not hiring a faceless company; you're hiring a craftsman who genuinely cares.

I am approached by people who have been living in their homes for a long time and are used to the layout of their kitchens and do not want to change it. Often, these are very high-quality kitchen cabinets that have been in active use for more than 10 years and their appearance needs improvement. Painting or staining is one-third the cost of remodeling, and the result is just as striking and beautiful.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, I stand behind our craftsmanship. I offer a 1-year warranty on my labor. If you experience any issues with peeling, chipping, or bubbling due to our workmanship within that time frame, we will come back and make it right. In addition, I am giving you a Touch UP DIY KIT for quick repairs, so that your cabinets will always be in excellent condition.
Absolutely. A paint job is also a great opportunity to repair minor damage. I always fill small dings, dents, and scratches. For more significant damage like water stains, i will first treat the area with a stain-blocking primer (like an oil or shellac-based primer) to ensure the stain doesn’t bleed through the new paint.
I primarily use a spray application for the doors, drawer fronts, and face frames. Spraying provides that smooth, factory-like finish without any brush marks or roller stipple. However, we do back-brush the primer on the cabinet boxes (the inside and outer structure) to ensure maximum adhesion in high-traffic areas. The final color coats on the boxes are always sprayed to ensure a seamless look.
That’s entirely up to you! My standard quote typically includes painting the exterior of the boxes, the doors, and the drawers. I can certainly provide a separate quote for painting the interiors if you’d like a complete refresh. Keep in mind that if we paint the interiors, you will need to empty those cabinets completely.
Yes, if your new hardware has a different configuration, we will fill the old screw holes with wood filler and sand them smooth so they are completely invisible under the new paint.
