Service Catalog

Siding & Exterior Cladding

Siding protects the structure and defines the look of the exterior. The work pairs weather management—WRB, flashing, and optional rainscreen—with durable cladding and clean trim so water sheds properly and lines stay true.

Overview

  • Scope: removal and replacement, substrate repair, WRB and flashing, rainscreen and exterior insulation options, siding install, trims, soffit and fascia, and caulking/finishes.
  • Goals: a dry, air‑tight envelope with straight coursing, safe clearances, and durable, low‑maintenance finishes.
  • Settings: full elevations, additions, dormers, and targeted repairs around windows, doors, and roof intersections.

What This Service Includes

  • Assessment & prep: inspect existing siding, flashings, and sheathing; identify rot or moisture; remove cladding; repair framing/sheathing as needed.
  • WRB & flashing: install housewrap or fluid‑applied WRB; tape seams; integrate pan/sill, jamb, and head flashings; install kick‑outs at roof‑to‑wall.
  • Rainscreen & insulation: furring strips and vented bug screen to create drainage/air gap; optional exterior rigid insulation with flashed penetrations.
  • Siding install: fiber cement, vinyl, engineered wood, cedar (lap, panel, shingle, or board‑and‑batten), and select metal profiles; fasteners and spacing per manufacturer.
  • Trims & edges: corner boards, belly bands, Z‑flashings, window/door trim, starter strips, soffit and fascia, and clean terminations at decks and slabs.
  • Sealing & finish: end‑cut priming/sealing, joint sealants sized correctly, paint or factory finishes, and touch‑ups at cut edges.

Materials & Options

  • Fiber cement: fire‑resistant, paintable, many profiles; dust‑controlled cutting required.
  • Vinyl: low‑maintenance, ventilated design, expansion gaps and nailing slots respected.
  • Engineered wood & cedar: warm look; back‑priming and end‑sealing improve longevity.
  • Metal siding: durable panels with trim packages; attention to oil‑canning and fastener layout.
  • Accessories: prefinished trims, vented soffit, integrated rain‑screen mats, color‑matched fasteners and flashings.

Envelope & Flashing Details

  • Pan and head flashing at every window/door; WRB shingled to shed water.
  • Z‑flashing at horizontal breaks and band boards; head flashing with end dams at trim tops.
  • Kick‑out flashing at roof lines; step flashing tied under WRB and behind siding.
  • Clearances: typical 6–8″ above grade, 1–2″ above roofing and flat surfaces (per manufacturer and code).
  • Penetrations (vents, lights, hose bibs) flashed and sealed with sleeves or boots.

Sequencing & Timing

  • Follows framing, sheathing, and rough openings; coordinates with window install and flashing sequence.
  • Exterior foam or rainscreen thickness confirmed before window/door trim and gutter placement.
  • Paint and caulk sequencing planned around dry weather; cold‑weather adhesives and fasteners used as needed.

Coordination With Other Trades

  • Aligns with roofing for step and kick‑out flashing and drip‑edge interfaces.
  • Works with window/door installers to integrate flanges and flashing with WRB.
  • Coordinates with electricians and HVAC for penetration sleeves and exterior fixtures.
  • Gutter and downspout placement confirmed after fascia/soffit install.

Standards & Clearances

  • Fastener type/length, spacing, and edge distances per product specs; studs located for secure attachment.
  • Expansion/contraction allowances respected (vinyl/metal); joints staggered and gapped per manufacturer.
  • End cuts and field cuts sealed; back‑priming for wood improves performance.
  • Cladding and trim pitched or gapped to shed water at horizontal surfaces.

Quality Markers

  • Straight, consistent coursing and reveals; plumb corners and level bands.
  • Flashings visible where they should be and hidden where they should be—no reverse laps.
  • Even fastener rows, no over‑driven heads, no buckled panels; tight, clean miters and caulk joints.
  • Clearances uniform to grade, roofing, and hardscape; paint touch‑ups blended at cut edges.

Safety & Compliance

  • Fall protection, ladder/scaffold safety, and material lifting practices observed.
  • Fiber‑cement cut with dust control; respirators used as required.
  • Lead‑safe work for pre‑1978 paint disturbance; waste handled per local rules.
  • Installations meet local codes and manufacturer requirements for warranty eligibility.

Care & Maintenance

  • Annual washdown to remove dirt and mildew; gentle cleaners only.
