Countertops bring durable, precise surfaces to kitchens, baths, and utility areas. Measuring, fabrication, and installation are coordinated so slabs fit cleanly, seams read tight, and sinks and appliances land exactly where they should.
Overview
- Scope: templating, fabrication, installation, edge profiles, sink/cooktop cutouts, faucet and accessory holes, sealing, and final caulking.
- Materials: quartz, granite, marble, quartzite, porcelain/sintered slabs, and solid surface.
- Goals: accurate fit, clean seams, supported overhangs, sealed stone, and protected adjacent finishes.
What This Service Includes
- Templating: digital or stick templates, level checks, reveal decisions at sinks, appliance and panel clearances verified, and seam planning away from cutouts when possible.
- Fabrication: CNC or guided cutting, edge profiling (eased, bevel, bullnose, ogee, mitered), sink and cooktop cutouts, faucet/soap holes, rodding or reinforcement where needed, and finish polishing.
- Installation: cabinet leveling and shimming, dry-fit and seam alignment, color-matched epoxy seams, silicone perimeter set, undermount sink setting with rails/clips, cooktop clearances per spec, and dishwasher anchoring solutions.
- Supports: concealed brackets, corbels, or steel plates sized for overhangs; waterfall returns and mitered aprons reinforced and pinned.
- Finishing: natural stone sealed (as specified), excess removed for even sheen; final caulking against walls and splashes; surfaces cleaned and protected.
Materials & Options
- Quartz: consistent pattern, low maintenance, factory colors; heat and UV guidance followed.
- Granite & quartzite: natural movement and veining; sealing recommended; bookmatched or vein-matched options.
- Marble: classic look with etch/stain awareness; honed or polished.
- Porcelain/sintered: thin large-format slabs; mitered edges for thick look; UV- and heat-resistant.
- Solid surface: seamless joins, integrated sinks, repairable; matte or satin finishes.
Sinks, Cutouts & Appliances
- Undermount: sink rails or mechanical clips, silicone set, reveal style (negative/zero/positive) confirmed in template.
- Drop-in & apron: rim support and clearances checked; apron fronts aligned to cabinet faces.
- Cooktops: manufacturer clearances honored; heat shields or reinforcement where specified.
- Accessories: faucet, soap, air switch, dispenser, and RO holes sized and spaced per spec (typical 1-3/8″ to 1-1/2″).
Seams, Edges & Tolerances
- Seam placement avoids sinks/cooktops where possible; width and lippage kept tight and flush, color-matched epoxy used.
- Edges profiled and polished consistently; inside corners radiused to reduce stress.
- Cabinets leveled to tight tolerance before install (often within 1/16″ over 8′).
- Backsplash scribed to walls; movement joints at range and window corners caulked, not grouted.
Backsplashes & Transitions
- Stone splashes or tile coordinated to finish height and outlets; end returns capped cleanly.
- Counter-to-wall joint sealed with matching silicone; tile setters briefed on thickness and terminations.
- Waterfall ends aligned to floor and plinth lines; base trims adjusted as needed.
Sequencing & Coordination
- Template after base cabinets are fixed, level, and appliances on site (or cut sheets approved).
- Install scheduled after major painting and before plumbing/electrical trim for sink and cooktop set.
- Range hoods, panels, and end panels confirmed to finished thickness; tile or full-height splash follows counters.
Quality Markers
- Tight seams, minimal lippage, and aligned veining across joints.
- Edges smooth and even; corners clean with appropriate radius; reveals uniform at sinks and fronts.
- Overhangs straight, supported, and consistent; sealers applied evenly without blotches.
Safety & Compliance
- Silica-aware practices: wet or shrouded cutting, HEPA extraction, and PPE for any field adjustments.
- Team lifts and handling equipment for slabs; protected paths and cabinets.
- Manufacturer specs followed for cutouts, supports, adhesives, and warranty eligibility.
Care & Maintenance
- Use pH-neutral cleaners; avoid abrasives; wipe spills promptly—especially on marble and limestone.
- Re-seal natural stone as recommended; check water beading to judge timing.
- Cutting boards and trivets protect edges and tops; avoid standing or sitting on overhangs.
