Priming Exterior

Priming exterior surfaces involves selecting the correct primer type based on substrate conditions—bonding primer for previously painted surfaces, stain-blocking primer for tannin-rich woods, or masonry sealer for porous concrete. The primer is applied using a back-brushing technique on textured areas to ensure deep penetration and uniform coverage. Bare wood gets a full coat to seal grain and prevent bleed-through, while metal surfaces require a rust-inhibitive primer to prevent oxidation. Edges, seams, and high-exposure areas receive extra attention, creating a stable base that enhances adhesion and evens out porosity before the topcoat application.
